Coaching Staff

James Brooks was born and raised on Chicago's northwest side. He played Central States for the Chicago Blues and Glenview Stars before playing high school hockey for Loyola Academy Gold.

After high school, James played two seasons for Robert Morris College before turning minor pro. After playing six seasons professionally, including one in Sweden, James hung up his skates and turned to coaching. 

James spent four seasons building the Saint Patrick High School Hockey Program and, most recently, spent the last four years shaping and building the LZMW Yeti High School hockey program. James is passionate about developing young players into responsible young men and hockey players. 

Mike Dwyer was a Hinsdale Central goalie alum and the first AHAI All State Team Selection for the Hinsdale Central hockey program. Mike grew up playing youth hockey with both Huskies and Sabres and ended up playing one season with Iowa State University.  

Mike has been coaching for over 12 years now, both boys’ and girls’ teams, from learn to play all the way up through U18s and most years was on the bench of 3-4 teams as head coach, assistant coach, and/or goalie coach.  He has been involved with high school hockey for 11 years where the club he represented had 2 JV state championships, one varsity state runner up, three all state goalies, multiple all state players, and multiple league trophies. 

Outside of the high school team, Mike has received multiple coach of the year awards from the youth clubs he represented. He brings a no nonsense approach to bringing out the best in all players and enforces a team first environment and respect of the game of hockey. He returns to Hinsdale Central Hockey Club where he had so much success and created great memories. He hopes to bring that experience to his players.

Matt Lundgren was born and raised in Chicago. He played youth hockey at McFetridge and Evanston before attending Mount Carmel High School. There, he was a three-sport athlete and played varsity hockey. After graduating high school, Matt attended both Robert Morris and DePaul University where he played hockey all four years. He has been coaching for 9+ seasons and prior to joining HCHC, Matt spent four years coaching and building the LZMW Yeti High School hockey program. 

Nick Oostman is a native of Downers Grove. He attended Downers Grove South High School where he played goalie on the varsity hockey team along with numerous club hockey teams. Nick was also selected to be part of the 1993 Coca-Cola High School All-Star Competition. He has been coaching for over 14 years. As the head coach of the Chicago Bruins Squirt team in the 2016-2017 season, Nick coached his team to victory in the Squirt State Playoffs. He was also awarded Coach of the Year. 

Zack is a Hinsdale Central High School Alumni and former Red Devil. Zach has worked as assistant coach on the varsity and Junior Varsity teams and spent much of the season teaching and running the defense. Zack is passionate about coaching hockey at HC and continuing to build this program.
